Take a Hike!

Given that the virus has provided way too much free time, why not get out of doors and do some good for the Chapter at the same time? Gather your family and tell them: “Hey, it’s an adventure that requires boots and gloves”. Pick a stream near home that has public access, maybe even aquatic life. Take a garbage bag for each person and your camera or phone. Objectives: pick up as much “safe” trash as possible (no tires, no sewer lids, no sharp objects) AND document the condition of the stream. Send photos and a short description of your adventure to [email protected] and watch right here on the website for your report. Include a screen shot of your GPS map so others can find (or avoid) your section. (posted 4-9-2020)

PFBC to rule on Wild Trout and Class A waters (April 7, 2020)

PA Fish and Boat Commission has a meeting scheduled this month (April) to consider upgrading a number of PA streams to either the “Wild Trout” or “Class A” designation. This would be a good move, and you may want to let PFBC know your thoughts. Click here for more information.

Conservation moves to the forefront

PWWTU has a long and proud history of stream improvement and conservation. Early records indicate projects on 4 or 5 streams every year with good member turnout. Our “home” stream is Little Pine Creek which flows from North Park Lake down to the Allegheny River. We share responsibility for this stream with the Allison Park Sportsman’s Club and work closely with them. Here’s a picture from the 70’s of PWW members hard at work on White Run.
