For 20 years after leaving the military\, he was trained through numerous college courses\, and as a hike leader for Outbound Bound and Oregon Mountain Rescue. He has been an instructor for wilderness survival at TU summer camps for many years. Glen has participated in locating a number of lost (confused?)\, injured or missing persons. DESCRIPTION:A free outdoor watershed program for all youth ages 11 to 14 sponsored by Penn’s Woods West Trout Unlimited. \nThis free STEAM-based program is designed to teach STEM and the Arts through an action-packed day at a local stream. Youth will leave with a better understanding of what makes a stream healthy and maybe catch a fish or two as well! \nActivities include: \nStream Walk: Walk the stream to learn what makes it a great place to wade and fish \nRace rubber duckies to determine stream flow and current \nBug Hunt: Hunt and identify macro-invertebrates to determine stream health \nScavenger Hunt: Put it all together with a scavenger hunt to collect beads for a bracelet or lanyard \nTie It/Cast It/Fish It!: See if you can catch a wily trout or bass with a fly you tied yourself (Parents/Guardians invited to join in the fun!) \nRegister Here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/stream-keepers-ages-11-to-14-registration-856572189477 \nWhat to Bring: \n\nLunch and any additional food or beverages they would like to have. \nSunscreen \nBug Spray \nAny needed medications \nShoes\, sandals or rubber boots for wading in the stream \nAdditional clothing or shoes if needed (they will get wet) \nEmergency contact information (we will also keep the registration information on-site) \nYouth are also welcome to bring cameras and cell phones to this event! \n\nOur Volunteers:\nAll volunteers for the event have been completed background checks and have experience in the areas they are leading.They are all active members of Trout Unlimited. \nThe Location:\nThe event will be held outside at a covered pavilion in North Park.The pavilion has a porta-john and water fountain nearby. \nWhat’s Provided:\nPA Trout Unlimited will provide the journals\, materials needed to participate\, fishing equipment and anything else needed for the activities. He coordinates the operation of the school’s recirculating aquaculture systems\, culturing fish and other aquatic organisms to support teaching and research within Chatham’s Sustainability and Food Studies programs.\n\nDr. Weitzell will discuss what PWWTU has helped to accomplish in the lab through the Tom Walsh Memorial Scholarship and where the research is heading.\n\nAs always\, our meeting is at the Christ Church at Grove Farm\nlocated at 246 Duff Road\, Sewickley\, PA 15243.\n\nWe will have plenty of Cabin Fever T-shirts available for purchase and some stickers from the event at the meeting!\n\nThanks and help spread the word! SUMMARY:Tree Planting at Linbrook Woodlands
DESCRIPTION:Penn’s Woods West TU and Allegheny Land Trust (ALT) is hosting a tree planting event along the creek on the Linbrook Woodlands property\, and we need your help! \nSaturday\, November 23\, 2024 @ 9:30AM — 12:30PM\, strap on your muck boots and join PWWTU and ALT and others in planting trees along the Big Sewickley Creek! This planting will strengthen the riparian buffer that winds through Linbrook Woodlands\, providing habitat for fish\, birds\, and other wildlife\, and making a stronger stream bank to prevent soil erosion. \nVolunteers will work with shovels\, rebar poles\, and pruners to plant trees and install live stakes in and along the creek. Some light lifting may be involved\, but we can accommodate to make sure everyone has something to contribute. Tools and gloves will be provided. Participants should dress appropriately for walking in cold\, wet\, and muddy conditions. \nRegistration is required so we can communicate in case of any necessary changes: \nhttps://alleghenylandtrust.networkforgood.com/events/77632-tree-planting-at-linbrook-woodlands \nEvent will take place rain or shine\, but we will cancel in case of thunderstorms or floods. DESCRIPTION:The group meets the fourth Monday of each month (unless specified) at 7:00 pm at Howard’s Tavern\, 98 Center Ave\, West View\, PA 15229. Some folks show up around 6 pm to get some extra time behind the vise. All are welcome and be assured it is a relaxed\, low-key environment to learn and exchange fishing and tying stories. Let’s get those boxes ready for the season! \nYou can park in the lot\, and Howard’s has a handicap ramp and entrance into the dining room on the side of the building. Drinks and a menu are available. \nWebsite: www.howardstavern.com \nFor beginner tiers\, or anyone else:\nWe’ll be doing a various demo ties\, so come learn a few tricks and tips! We’ll have materials ready to go. Bring your equipment\, and if you don’t have any – no problem. We’ll have some spare tools you can try out.\n\nFor the advanced tiers:\nOpen tying – bring whatever you want to tie up and your equipment.\n\n\n\nNOTE: Good idea to bring your lamp or some sort of lighting and an extension cord.\n\nSee ya there!
