SUMMARY:Introduction to Fly Fishing
DESCRIPTION:Two day-long sessions being held on Saturday\, March 25 and Sunday\, March 26 at the Wilkins School Community Center\, 7604 Charleston Ave.\, Pittsburgh PA 15218 (Regent Square neighborhood of Pittsburgh’s East End). Classes will run from 9:00 to about 3:00 each day\, with lunch provided by Penn’s Woods West TU. Session sizes are limited so we can provide personalized instruction with each participant. \nThe course will cover areas such as equipment needs\, useful knots\, fly selection and basic entomology\, how to read the water for locations likely containing fish\, and a demonstration and basic instruction on how to cast fly rods. \nScott Loughner\, local fly-fishing expert\, is the primary instructor and will be assisted by members of Penn’s Woods West TU. \nTo sign up for one of the two sessions\, please contact TU member Ed Barger at treasurer@pwwtu.org\, and use the subject “Free Fly-Fishing School 2023” in the email. \n

SUMMARY:PWWTU Women & Diversity Event: Laurel Highlands Trout Trip
DESCRIPTION:Description: Join us to trout fish in the beautiful Laurel Highlands! (Loyalhanna or Indian Creek); Difficulty: Easy \nAbout the Penn Woods West Trout Unlimited Women and Diversity Initiative Schedule 2023:  \nWe try to adhere to the dates below unless something unexpected occurs. However\, locations may change depending on weather\, trout stocking\, and water levels. In general\, we meet around 10AM and officially stop fishing around 2PM or 3PM. Events are free but registration is required.  \nRegistration: Registration is via an Eventbrite link provided by email approximately 2 weeks prior to the date. The email contains details regarding the final location as well as any contingencies or back-up options. Registration is free but all attendees must register. We also generally schedule a pre-event virtual webinar to answer any final questions the Thursday prior to the event. Final confirmation of a location is then sent to all registered participants. This allows us to make any final adjustments due to weather or water conditions.  \nDifficulty Level: The difficulty levels listed below are based on the location and nature of the activity required including equipment needed\, cold weather\, wading difficulty\, the need to walk into a stream and so forth.  \n\nBeginner: These events require no equipment and are designed to help people completely new to flyfishing learn the basics. You should expect to get wet during these events even though you do not need waders or boots. \nEasy: These events are held in a location where wading is either minimal or easy. Waders and boots are needed for these events. \nModerate: These events require some equipment and wading or walking will be required. Some experience is helpful. \nDifficult: These events are either very technical or require the willingness to hike or wade in difficult conditions. They will require appropriate gear and preparation. For example\, the ability to wade into cold water during Steelheading season. \n\nNOTE: A Fishing License is required for every event unless noted otherwise below. Trout Stamp is required for most. PA fishing licenses are issued on a calendar year basis so buy yours in January to get the most use out of it! \n  \nPlease email Nora Cline and Jodie Minor at pwwtuwomen@gmail.com with questions or to ask for more details.
